Elon Musk on Saturday launched Grok while tweeting on X (formerly known as X). He tweeted "Just released Grok" by posting a picture on X which showcases Grok logo and some other info. Grok-1 is a more capable model than ChatGPT 3.5 according to the benchmarks shared by the company.
Grok is said to have real-time responses which ChatGPT lacks.
According to a statement released on Saturday by xAI, Grok, the company, is inspired by "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." It is designed to have a humorous and rebellious nature and is intended to provide answers to difficult questions that other AI systems might avoid.
What is Grok?
- Grok AI is the ultimate chatbot from Elon Musk's groundbreaking xAI startup. It dominates the market, leaving competitors such as Google Bard and Claude AI in the dust.
- In Robert Heinlein's 1961 novel "Stranger in a Strange Land," the word "grok" is used as a term in the Martian language. It primarily means "to drink," but it also has a broader context, referring to taking something in so completely that it becomes a part of you.
Pricing
- As of now (09-11-2023), Grok is available to only a selected group of users (verified users on X), but whenever it is rolled out, it will take at the effective pricing of $16/month for its premium users.
- ChatGPT 3.5 is free for all users and ChatGPT 4, which is the Plus version is available at the price of $20/month.
The company aims to develop artificial intelligence with the purpose of advancing our collective understanding of the universe. Musk has expressed his concern that the current AI developers are creating systems that are too focused on being politically correct. xAI has a mission to create AI that can cater to people of different backgrounds and political views.
